An 8th grade student at a Detroit Charter School was strip-searched without her mother’s consent

y’all will not believe what I’m about to tell you! This is some crazy s***! An 8th grade student at a Detroit Charter School was strip-searched without her mother’s consent over a vape pen she never had. According to Detroit Metro Times, her mother is now suing the school.

The incident took place back on April 25th.

Hannah Fielstra, who is the attorney for the girl and her mother, stated the following; “It has long been said that students do not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse door.” She continued with highlighting that the school had no justifiable reason to strip search an eighth-grade girl for a vape pen. “It is not a weapon and did not present an imminent danger to anyone. There were no credible threats of violence. A strip search is one of the most invasive searches recognized by law and it was performed on a teenage girl during school.”

The school was allegedly told by a young girl who has been bullying the victim, that the victim had a vape in her underwear. Unfortunately, the strip search was done in an office with two windows, one of which, was not even covered.

The school initially lied about searching the girl, then later said she volunteered to be searched.

The school has a history of strip searching minors, according to the lawsuit. The victim’s name has not been released for protection purposes. Thoughts?
